James poured pints in the same room his father did. The room is still there. The country around it is not. He has watched a joke become a file, a rate bill become a verdict, and a high street become a corridor of shutters. He wants a place where a man can own a till, tell a story, and not wonder which of those is the crime. He packed the Union Jack. He is prepared to unpack the Stars and Stripes.
